Great property! Met the description in all aspects. Clean and very well equipped. Unlike some holiday rentals, there is ample crockery/cutlery etc. to suit the intended number of occupants. Very pleasantly surprised to find good sized mugs and proper showers!!! 4 Adults, 2 youngish grand-children and a very happy Bingley, the latter never having experienced being away from home/a bigger garden/the beach/a bus ride/a boat trip! Although I think his favourite place was the sofa in the kitchen where he could keep an eye on everything. No hesitation in recommending Rill to any prospective first-timers. Hope to get back for better weather in due course though. April '24. PS, the Tower Inn also doing a good job with their temporary kitchen too.

Paul Henderson,

Just got back from a lovely week's holiday at Rill House and what can I say ,absolutely loved the house loads of space for the 4 of us and six dogs it's got everything you need for a great stay. The dogs loved the large fully enclosed garden and stream the only problem we had was trying to get back in I think they would of stopped out all day playing in the water😂.
If you like peace and quiet you won't find a better place

Andrew Burdett,

We are just home from another fantastic week at Rill House. Even with 6 adults and a baby, there was plenty of space for us all. The kitchen has everything we could possibly need, and the cream tea and bubbles was a lovely touch. We walked through the nature reserve to the beach several times, enjoyed a bike ride to the coffee hut at Strete (not up the hill 😂) and spent time on the beach. The lack of light pollution in the village meant we could sit in the courtyard and watch the stars. The peace here really is something else. Cannot wait for our next visit!

Alison M,

We had a week long stay for our family and 4 dogs. It was a really lovely holiday home with plenty of space for us all. It was well furnished and comfortable for us all. There was lots of activities and dog friends walks around. Thanks for the stay and we hope to book again in the future.

Michael Pickerill,

Dog and Dash Adventures, a local 3 acre dog park, are very happy to support local businesses who are so welcoming and accommodating to dogs and their owners. We were so pleased to hear someone gets it! Dogs are family members and the local area is perfect to explore and enjoy what the south hams has to offer with them. The accommodation has thought of everything to make sure you and your doggos stay is enjoyable and relaxing. Their online site is informative and supportive of local dog welcoming business including ours, such an asset for the area.

Dog & Dash,

Our stay at the lovely Rill House was ideal for us, so relaxing when George our Labrador could have access all over the house which he is used to! We will definitely be returning as soon as we can.
Thank you.

Tania Ellis,

Thank you for a fab firework free week, so quiet. Just the sound of the brook & the birds. I can hardly believe what weather we've had! So lucky dodging showers, lovely sunshine and warm evenings for star gazing. Full use of the garden appreciated by two happy collies! Great to see the hedgehogs + frigs in the garden as well as a great selection of garden birds. We watched the brook get higher + faster each day. A beautiful village. although quite testing for our relatively new daughter and daughter in law!! plus Barnabas & Rosie

We all had a really lovely week at the wonderful Rill House. Buddy thought the stream and garden were fantastic, The weather was mixed bit we still found lots to do. Long walks in the sea air wore Buddy out nicely so we were able to have family chill time in the evenings playing board/card games. Beautiful house in a lovely village!

Bruce, Jean + Rayla, Glory, Merya, Floyd & Blue,

We have just got home from an amazing week at Rill House. We absolutely loved it!

Plenty of room for the 6 of us & 4 dogs! The dogs (and us!) absolutely loved the garden, being able to let them all run around loose knowing they were safe was so nice - especially our little rescue dog who is forever confined to a long line!

The house has everything you could want, beautifully decorated (we loved our owl room!), a very well stocked kitchen & even tags for the dogs.

We arrived to a cream tea, bottle of fizz & balls for the dogs which was lovely! Plenty to do locally, all dog friendly & we loved being so close to the beach. We ate at the Tower in village the first night & also popped to the chip shop down on the seafront in the village which was also great.

We thought the app which we had before we went was worth it's weight in gold - we were all able to have a read through & knew exactly what to take & what's where etc.

We now have 4 exhausted dogs (and humans!) & can't wait to come back! Thank you!

Elinor Jenkins,

Thank you for an amazing stay! It's our first holiday at Rill House &it's safe to say it will not be the last. We've had a fantastic time& the weather has been perfect, The dogs have loved the garden!
Everything we could have wanted and needed was provided & the app was excellent.

The village was beautiful and everyone we met so friendly . Lovely walks so close too. We love Devon anyway but I love it more now and would definitely love to go back soon .

Dawn pitt,

Thank you for a wonderful/fantastic week. Weather was brilliant, different to what we left behind in Lincolnshire, drizzle, cloud and cold. Everything plus more provided for both humans and dogs. All information provided on the App was informative we soon felt at home. Lovely. if not steep (with pushchair and dog), walks out of Slapton. Good provisions at village shop for topping up! Benji, our dog, loved the walks and the freedom of the fantastic garden.
So peaceful and relaxing stay with daughter, son-in-law and 2yr old grandson xxx

From our guestbook.

Richard, Dawn & Benji Pitt, Annie, Richard & Alexander Dowse,

What a fabulous house and we have stayed in many. 7 of us and a miniature schnauzer and Yorkie had a wonderful week with fabulous weather.
The large kitchen and amazing garden were a big plus. We are usually Cornwall fans but have been converted. The information supplied was so useful. The pods at hope cove provided a special evening and fortesque arms food was such good value. Lots of walks close by a week was definitely not long enough.
Many thanks

alison perry,

We had a wonderful week at Rill House in early May (4 adults and 3 dogs). The house and garden is beautiful and so dog-friendly. We arrived to find a bottle of bubbly, scones, and balls for the dogs, which is a lovely touch. Did some great walks from one of the guide books in the house, and ended up with 3 very tired and happy dogs. Had a few meals out, our favourite was the Tower Inn in the village - Sunday roast to die for! Would highly recommend a stay here, you won't be disappointed.

The Barretts and the Vincents,

We had a wonderful week's stay at Rill House last week. The house is amazing and the weather was good too - lucky us!!! We had seven adults - four generations of family - ranging from 83 to 8 months, together with 6 dogs. Amazing dog friendly house which we all loved. Everything you could want was there. The garden is gorgeous and the dogs loved it. Great walks nearby and afar. Two good village pubs with decent food. Very quaint and beautiful village - managed to get through it without any scrapes on the cars!!!! We would definitely go to Rill House again - it was just perfect. Would definitely recommend it to anyone, but especially dog lovers.

Sarah Jordan,

We had a lovely family 2catchup" week in this lovely house. Great weather, dry & sunny but not too hot - perfect for 6 dogs! They loved tgehir stay too, especially the garden & beach - so good to find somewhere that takes more than two dogs - thank you!
Had good meals at both village pubs and also the Start Bay Inn at Torcross. Would highly recommend breakfast at Stokley Farm Shop. Salcombe is great & the beach at Bantham.
Would recommend staying here and hope to be back soon.
Thank you from six very tired dgs

Sarah, Mark, Marcia, Todd, Shanie, Mila (8 months & first time in Devon!) Joel and Zoe Bo, Belle, B,

We had such a fabulous week ay Rill House. Lovely house and garden, the dogs loved doing zoomies around the place. We had some great walks, mainly off the lead from 'The short(ish) walks. The South Devon Coast book' found at the house, No's 4, 6 & 13. Also Litte Dartmouth car park along the coast path. Food wise we would highly recommend The Tower Inn in the village and The Start Bay Inn - Torcross.
However our best meal was at the Lobster Pd - scallops to die for! Just off to The Tower Inn for our last meal with three very tired but happy doggies. Thank you so much for sharing your house with us, we would love to return for further adventures. xx

House is lovely & comfortable - everything you need. Harvey and Sonny thought the garden was fantastic & would like to stay forever.
Loved welcome & food in the Queen's Arms. Weather was not too great but managed to do lots. Great walks around the area and a few National Trust sights like Coleton Fishacre was great for the dogs. Good farmshop in Stokley.
Writing this as we leave with a heavy heart - hope to be back again.

Dave, Maria, Harvey & Sonny,

What a beautiful place - the location and the house were fabulous and we enjoyed every moment despite a few rainy days, one with thunder, lightening and hail 😳
On the sunny days we visited many beaches and the rainy days consisted of good food and cosy days in the house playing games! The garden was magical and our granddaughter loved her Easter egg hunt in it. We’ve had a wonderful family holiday - 8 of us and two dogs!
We will be back - thank you!!!

Jackie & Richard Smith,

What a wonderful place! Came here wth our daughters, granddaughter & partners & two dogs.
Despite a few stormy days & thunder, lightning, hail, heavy rain we visited many beaches and back to our old favourites Start Bay Inn & The Britannia at Beesands. The girls also love The Tower Inn. Garden is delightful, sad not to see the wisterias bloom it will be gorgeous as will all the wisterias about the village.
Dartmouth as ever is glorious but it was such a great spot here, everything is thought of and we hope to come back!

From our Guestbook

Julie, Chris, Angela and all the pooches,

Well! Where to begin!
There simply aren’t enough superlatives to describe Rill House.
From the moment we arrived to the day we left was just wonderful.
Rill House is just lovely. We loved the decorated bedrooms (especially the Dalmation room). The spaces are very well thought out and the house is very very well stocked with everything you need and what you forgot too!
The extra touches provided made this a very special holiday. The dog tags, the games room, the doggie towels and bowls etc, not to mention the bottle of fizz and cream tea in the fridge on arrival.
I was particularly impressed with the on line guide that Emma and Richard have put together. I’ve never seen anything so well thought out. They really have thought of everything, especially if you have dog(s). Our Dalmation, Daisy (9mmths) had a blast here! On arrival, she jumped out of the car, explored the delightful brook that runs through the courtyard then ran laps at a gallop around the garden 😊 from that moment I knew we were going to have the best holiday because let’s be honest, it’s all about the dog right?
Thank you to Emma & Richard and to Dawn and Quintin.
We loved it so much we booked to come back next year.
Best bits were the treasure hunt, Gara rock coastal walk and Dartmouth castle walk.

Nicola goodsir,

We arrived on 16th December looking for a little slice of peace, escaping the madness of the pre Christmas frenzy and we we were not disappointed. Rill House is a small piece of Heaven. From the moment we arrived, the gorgeous garden was a delight and both of our dogs were happy and safe in the enclosed grounds. The kitchen area is superb - a brilliant, social space which easily accommodated 8 adults and 2 labradors. The little utility was brilliant to store doggy paraphernalia and prepare doggy food. Emma had decorated the tree outside and also the Christmas tree in the lounge was set up for us. The lounge was perfect for most of our party to watch the Strictly Come Dancing final on the Saturday evening and also for the rest of the party to watch the World Cup final on Sunday. Other than those 2 momentous events, we spent all other evenings in the local pubs or gathered around in the kitchen. We particularly liked the Tower, the food was different to usual pub grub, outstanding quality and perfect service.
I had been looking at Whitebeam originally, but saw this week pop up as a last minute cancellation at Rill House and so decided to go with the flow and book....I am so pleased I did. Emma was in touch for anything I needed before and during the break. I felt we were in good hands. My concerns regarding the new floors being slippy for one of our dogs, were allayed by Emma, purchasing and supplying some rugs to scatter where we needed them...nothing was too much trouble. All guests, from 4 separate households, had a great time and I, for one, will definitely be back next year. Thank you Emma for allowing us to enjoy this gorgeous space.

Abbie Collins,

I came here with my four Chihuahuas. I needed a place where I could finish my novel. What a wonderful place this is. The most glorious setting, fantastic dog friendly beaches & so peaceful.
I will be back to Rill House.

S Canning,

Yet another visit to Rill House from the 10th to 17th June, a really lovely place to spend a break with the dog(s). Everything so secure in the garden, which is so well manicured, for our Scottie who loved the stream running through the garden. Inside , everything you could want, and more, from a holiday home. This is our 3rd visit and hopefully not the last. So much information regarding walks and places to visit. A really good choice of places to have a good meal or just a pleasant drink. Everyone is so friendly, especially the tractor drivers which you come across on some of the lanes !!

Bruce & Elaine Davies,

Fabulous week in a great location. Amazingly spacious house and lovely gardens.More than enough space for 3 large dogs and 4 people. Brilliant facilities in the kitchen, patio furniture etc. Loved the property information with off road walking route to the beach, details of eating out/take away options and wonderful community shop.
Would thoroughly recommend for a week of getting completely away from it all!

Meg Haver,

As always a beautiful stay here at Rill House. A home from home for us and our dogs. Sad to leave again, I think the dogs are more sad to leave than us.

We, four humans and three dogs, had a wonderful stay at Rill House. Lots of space for everyone, sheltered from the wind courtyard and a garden loved by the dogs. Slapton itself is really picturesque. There are plenty of walks, pretty villages and great pubs and cafes in this area of Devon.

Ian ,

We have all had a lovely week here at Rill House, Dogs have enjoyed the freedom of the garden, walks along the beach and a dip in the sea.
We visited Brixham and met a jolly pirate, and enjoyed a lovely ice cream.

We have all fallen in Love with Rill House & Slapton.
This will probably be Ellie's last beach holiday as she will be 16 next month and although she somehow finds energy to go on walkies as often as she can, her back legs are fading fast :-(
She has loved Bantham/Bigbury - which when the tide is out, becomes one massive expanse of sand - Doggie Paradise!
Mill Bay is amazing at the end of the day deserted - again Doggie Paradise
Ellie, Martha, Daniel, Mia & Dora

Mothercombe is another worthwhile trip - but check it is open because it is a private beach & only open to the public on certain days.
Newton Ferras & Noss Mayo have great pubs and a good walk on the coastal paths, Take the ferry to Wembury - another fab walk.
Thank you so much Emma, Richard, Sophie, Charlie, and George for sharing your treasure with us all.
Hopefully we will all be back as soon as we possibly can.

This is our 2nd visit to Rill House (Mum & me!) It just feels like home when you step through the door, Such a comfortable house to be in. All the dogs, and us, adore the garden,
Slapton itself is very pretty and the people friendly. We can highly recommend visiting Berry Pomeroy and wandering around the castle ruins. (English Heritage) Excellent cafe & loos!
The other place we fell in love with is Mill Bay a stunning sandy beach with epic views, The only mildly harrowing bit is the very narrow access, but it was worth it.

A must visit for good beer is 'The Tap House' at Stockley Farm Shop just up the road.

A beautiful house in a picturesque village just a short walk from the sea, what more could one ask for? Rill House was home for a week to our family of 5 humans ranging from 67 to 4 years in age and our 3 dogs (14 year old lab, 13 year old golden and a 7 month old chihuahua) and none of us wanted to leave at the end of our stay. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and cannot thank Emma enough for allowing us to stay and let our dogs be as much a part of the family there as they are at home. I’m sure it would be equally lovely if you are not as dog mad as we are but if you are a doggy family, don’t hesitate just book. Oh and then book again for the following year.

Thank you for a wonderful stay. We have loved the house, the garden, the beach.

We spent a fantastic week at Rill House with our two greyhounds Ronan and Bonnie in September. The house was all we could ask for in a beautiful location with a gorgeous garden which the dogs absolutely adored. The bottle of champagne on arrival was really appreciated after our 5 hour drive.
There was plenty to keep the dogs (and us!) happy with numerous walks literally on our doorstep in an area of outstanding natural beauty. I'm pretty sure Ronan and Bonnie had some of the best days of their lives so far discovering the new sights! We've already booked to return next year and can't wait!

Mark Capell ,

We joined our close friends as a party of 4 adults, 4 kids (aged 6-10) and 2 dogs. The house was perfectly equipped, the garden beautiful for kids, dogs and adults, and we loved watching the bats at dusk!!! Highly recommend!!!

Anna & Deborah,

If you want a beautiful idyllic house to stay in this is the one for you. We couldn’t get over how equipped the kitchen was and the lounge was so cosy for evenings in. All the bedrooms are a good size the beds very comfortable with good quality bedding. My favourite room was the formal dining room it was so tastefully furnished. The dogs loved the big garden and the courtyard was a pleasant place to sit and listen to the brook. Keep up the good work Rill House you have everything just perfect.

Heather,

Bentley, Mason & Darcy had a lovely stay at Rill House their favourite place was the garden. They would like to thank you for letting them stay in your lovely home.

(from our guestbook)

H James,

I can’t praise Rill House enough. Falcor and I had such a fantastic, relaxing holiday. From the big beautiful garden to the babbling stream, the chorus of songbirds and church bells in the distance, it was all so idyllic. The house was clean, warm and welcoming with everything one would need away from home, and more. Even my anxious wolfdog, Falcor, was able to settle in this lovely home and gives it two thumbs up (or should I say two paws up).
The village of Slapton is a short walk to the beach where we watched a few sunrises and sunsets. The beach and nature reserve offer lovely long walks in natures beauty. The local people were very friendly and so helpful. We also made the most of the takeaway service offered by the Queens Arms and the convenience of the local village shop.
In all, great house, great surroundings - one could not be disappointed. We will be back. Five stars.

Michele Haugrund,

This is our 3rd holiday here & it's just amazing. The dogs settle in instantly. It's like home from home. We love Bantham Beach. Wow/especially when the tide is out. Oh we really should come in the summer to make the most of the garden.
Thank you for letting us enjoy this wonderful place.

Leigh, Julie, Jaspa, Oakley. Ocean and Dolly (Spotty dogs),

Just spent two weeks at this wonderful cottage with our five dogs. Absolutely faultless accommodation. Off road parking and large garden perfect for the dogs. Beautiful part of the country. There is simply no way you could be disappointed. Thank you.

Joanne Sampson,

We have just got back from a fabulous holiday at Rill House.
I had been so excited for our stay since I had booked the week. I began to get worried that I was building it up too much and I would be disappointed.
Of course, I needn’t have worried.
It was amazing!
From the moment we opened the door we felt at home. Welcome treats and toys for the dogs and wonderful welcome cake, fizz and card for us.
The house was immaculate and brilliantly equipped and it was incredibly comfortable and relaxing.
The garden was wonderful and Oscar and Woody were at home in there. We enjoyed watching the birds too.
Having so much room and our own off-road parking was luxurious.
We would highly recommend and will definitely be back again!

Hazel Hancox,

We've just had a really fab week at Rill House ! Most days we had 6 dogs from a very elderly lab to a year old frenchie) with us and 6 people ,and we all fitted in beautifully in the house ! Younger members went on lovely coastal walks and we older ones pottered happily ! The village shop and pub were also well visited !! The safe garden and stream were perfect for the dogs too ,also the tennis balls were much appreciated! It went all too quickly !

Margaret Ridley ,

A lovely house in a lovely village. The garden is secure for the dogs. Ottis loved to spend time on guard at the far gate. The house is beautiful and very well equipped. Lovely walks from the house if you want some car free days. Pubs in the village friendly and welcoming both with gardens which is ideal if you have large dogs (we have 2) and don't always find it easy to accomodate their sizes in a pub. We will return to Rill House and would highly recommend to others.

Dawn DUNN,

Our second and hopefully not our last stay!
Rill house is beautiful, a wonderfully peaceful place to relax till your hearts content or potter around the truly Devonshire village down to the beach passing The Queens a good old fashioned place with proper pub grub at amazing prices.
The garden for the four dogs we had with us is a haven and really pretty.
Inside the spacious house it’s a home from home and has absolutely everything you need for a one two or even three week stay if your lucky enough to bag that long at the place before it gets booked up.
Emma is an excellent friendly host who truly wants everyone to enjoy their holidays and this beautiful property.
Have recommended to many people especially if you have dogs with a safe enclosed garden.
Thanks Rill House, missing you already !

Donna Carlin,

What an amazing house!: So dog friendly and homely, we didn't feel worried about what our dogs were up to; they loved exploring (and we found the poo and picked up of course). Beaches great, and local towns were fantastic, local farm shop and cider, wish we had longer, reluctantly leavingxxx

Alison Coopet,

Quite simply the most beautiful house/garden/village I have ever been lucky enough to stay in. The dogs loved the garden (although I suspect the squirrels were pleased to see them go!!) and it was such a treat for them to have the space to have a really good run around. The house itself was perfect - huge rooms, well-equipped and the beds were super-comfortable. We will have to see if we can fit in a 2 week holiday next time :D

Deb Ruczynska,

Just returned from our second visit to Rill House and yet again had lovely weeks break in such a comfortable and welcoming house. This year we had some decent spring weather (we had snow last year!) and were able to enjoy the garden with our two Collies and some afternoon sunshine. I have read all the reviews since our first visit last March and agree with all the positive comments made. I can't add much more than I said in my own rather more comprehensive review last year (March 2018). It's just such a fantastic dog friendly place to stay and we will be returning again next year.

Martin, Maggie, and the Collies Zebedee and Florence.

Martin Hale,

We spent a week at Rill House in March. I was struggling to find a house that would take more than 1 dog, and would be suitable for a family of 7 with no children. (Many homes for this number have bunk beds assuming there will be children, but we loved that Rill House had 3 huge double bedrooms and a twin.) It was the only place that fit the bill so perfectly so we booked without hesitation.

We found it spacious, clean, welcoming and well looked after and the garden was beautiful too. We loved how well equipped it was. We had everything we needed and more and the beds were so comfortable that we actually took note of what the mattresses were. We loved that our dogs were just as welcome. The owners loved to see pictures of what they had been up to, and they had wonderful week.

The location was perfect for exploring the beaches and local towns. The nearest beach is just minutes drive, and we also loved walking at Start Point lighthouse and the lovely quiet little beach around there. Such a perfect week and we really hope to return one day if we can get all the family together again.

Highly recommended!

Lucy Cooper,

What can we say.... nothing other than what a fabulous house in a beautiful village.

We have had fantastic days out to Burgh Island and Dartmouth and in such glorious weather. Bella and Mustard have had fun walking around the nature trails at Slapton Ley. Today (our last full day) we walked to The Tradesmans Arms in Stokenham then on to Torcross and back along the beach to Slapton which Bella has thoroughly enjoyed.

The village shop has enjoyed our patronage all week as have both the Tower Inn and the Queens Arms, probably a little too much in the case of the latter two, but then we were on holiday.

Thank you again, we all had a wonderful time during our week at Rill House.

Regards Michael, Lesley and Bella

Michael Ward,

Rill House had a lot to live up to..... suffice to say it not only matched all our expectations but excelled!! From the time of our arrival not forgetting the wonderful complimentary cake, champagne and dog treats to our reluctant departure we were utterly content. Rill House has an aura about her and virtually hugs all within its walls both people and dogs alike. The gardens were fantastic and so peaceful to wonder in and completely dog safe/friendly even for the smaller breeds like our two terriers who try as they may could not embark on a village tour without being on leads!
The village was so beautiful even in mid winter with lovely walks with vistas at all turns, hearing church bells ringing out softly just before we ambered up to the local pub for lunch was restful to say the least.
Reluctantly I could recommend a stay at Rill House.....I say reluctantly greedily simply due to fact we will return but hope Rill House is not solidly booked!

John Lewis Haskins,

We have just spent the most wonderful week at Rill House with our 4 spotty dogs . How perfect ! It’s the most incredible house and garden . Wev been to Bantham beach every day which also was amazing . Wev already booked for later on this year . We have a 13 year old dog and even the stairs are dog-friendly 😀 There is everything you could want here .

Julie Gardner,

We have just returned from another fantastic week at Rill House. Just the 3 of us this time and one very large Black Labrador who thoroughly enjoyed the garden and the great walks in the area. The coastline is stunning, made especially so with the fantastic weather we had for October. The house is better equipped than our own, the beds super comfy and good quality linen. The large kitchen is a great sociable place and even with just the three of us we enjoyed playing doggy bingo and had fun choosing a different song each with Alexa ( we are definitely getting one of these!!) We didn’t really cook as enjoyed eating out, particularly at the Tower Inn where we were made to feel like locals. The off street parking is an absolute bonus. We can’t recommend Rill House enough. You won’t be disappointed.

Phillips,

We have just spent a week here at Rill House we have had a lovely time fantastic house very well equipped and has beautiful grounds could not fault it in any way. Very responsive team with any communication. In fact this is our last night before we return home and have booked for next year can’t recommend it highly enough well worth a holiday visit 😀 Thank you all at Rill House

Jayne Rudge,

What a wonderful way to celebrate my hubby's 60th birthday with our family and where we all felt so welcomed especially the dogs. Rill House is so spacious both inside and outside that with six adults and two dogs everyone has space to relax plus the added and much needed benefit of parking for 3 cars.
The property is so well equipped and comfortable it really does feel like home from home and both Harvey and Charlie (the cockers) enjoyed a romp around the garden and paddling in the rill before setting off to the beach. It was so useful to have the outside tap/hose for doggy showers.
The adults had some wonderful evening bbqs on the patio and gave a big thumbs up to the large comfy beds.
Slapton a picturesque Devon village, is a haven of peace and quiet with two excellent pubs and the newly opened community shop provides the morning walk.
Thank you for the bottle of bubbles and homemade cake and for helping to make our family celebration so special.

Susan,

Our second stay at Rill House for our daughters and their young children went very well, this year, under the new management of Moor to Sea. They were extremely helpful, sorting out a couple of complaints we had very quickly and also lending us some extra garden chairs as when we had friends round one evening (seating 11 outside). The house is luxurious inside, especially the bedrooms, and the parking absolutely invaluable in Slapton, particularly for families with young children. Our grandchildren also loved the garden, and we were able to set up a water slide for them one evening, in the glorious weather we had this year, which was a great hit. Also take them on a bat walk around the village another evening, led by our elder daughter, and spot some gloworms too. The new village shop, gamely managed mainly by local villagers, was also super, stocking a great range of provisions, and even a coffee machine, for holidaymakers and locals alike. Slapton is a beautiful village which we know well, as are other favourite haunts of our family, including Start Point lighthouse, Mattscombe, East Portlemouth and Salcombe (for sailing, wonderful sandy beaches), Gara Rock cafe (gone a bit upmarket this year, but still a lovely stopover on the coastal path), and Bantham (for surfing). We didn’t eat out much in the evenings due to the young, but enjoyed the usual fish and chips one night from the Start Bay Inn, and a delicious crab for lunch, which we picked out ourselves, from Britannia at the Beach, Beesands, another day. Altogether a great week and we hope to repeat it next year.

Barry & Gill Mapstone,

Fantastic place to stay in the heart of the village, complete with its own private parking, a must in the narrow streets. Really comfortable beds guarantee a fantastic nights sleep. The house is well equipped and provides lots of space for everyone to spread out for any downtime. having the sunny spot outside the kitchen was great, with the separate shady garden to explore is an added bonus. we loved the large kitchen area complete with sofa and separate utility, in fact we spent most of our time in there, or outside with our two furr balls, when we did venture into the lounge it was really comfy in the large leather sofas. Would highly recommend for either small or large groups, there was just the four adults and two malamutes in our party but still found it offered value for money, in fact mom was blown away, ..... hubby especially loved the ask alexa feature in the kitchen !! looking to book for 2020 as unfortunately i cant get the time off i wanted in 2019 and its already getting booked up, just goes to show once you find this place, you wont want to leave.

debbie sanders,

Had a lovely week. The accommodation is by far the best we've stayed in with out pooches and would certainly recommend to anyone.

Thanks for having us!

Jo Duckham ,

In 2015 we set about searching for our perfect honeymoon, we were limited as we had three dogs to travel with us. We chose to find a suitable option in Devon, as we wanted to experience the area , knowing how beautiful it is.
We initially discovered Grants cottage and contacted Emma to discuss our requirements. At the time Emma asked us to consider Rill house, as she was uncertain of Grants cottage being available.
We are more than grateful that we were introduced to Rill house as an option and promptly planned our honeymoon there in May 2016 and we have booked to return each year since ( and hope to book our regular weeks each May for the future).
Rill house offers beyond requirements for an extremely comfortable holiday, it truly is home from home.
The court yard and large garden offer the security of allowing our dogs to safety enjoy plenty of space to run and play, knowing they will not escape is total satisfaction for us.
The on site parking is a huge bonus , as there is very limited space in the beautiful village.
Both pubs are fabulously welcoming and provide great beer and good food.
The beach a short distance away offers great opportunities for the dogs and the walks from the house around the ley are also fantastic.
The community village shop is a must for essentials and each visit supports them to offer a much needed service in this little community.
There is much to explore with a reasonable driving distance and the majority of places accept dogs.
The icing on the cake is the fabulous service Emma & Richard provide with lots of updates of interest while we are enjoying Rill house and the exceptionally thoughtful touches they enjoy sharing.
Every time we leave Rill house, it steals another piece of my heart, I simply have to return each year to feel complete.
There is now no other holiday destination for us, we and the dogs are more than happy to return.
Thank you Emma and Richard for sharing your amazing home .

Sally & Allan Parsons ,

Just had a wonderful week at Rill house , 4 adults one toddler and 3 doggies , the house is fantastic , Charlie the toddler loved the play room and that he could run from room to room , really thick carpet everywhere so no bumps when he fell over , the pooches loved the secure garden , we managed to get out every day lovely walk to the beach and had 2 lovely meals out at the Queens Arms a very dog friendly pub . We will hopefully be returning next year.

Ann Potter,

Searching for dog friendly cottages in the South Hams last year we came across Rill House. It stood out from many others because of the "extra mile" the owners Emma and Richard had gone to to positively welcome dogs! Access to every room and no problems accepting more than two dogs. A rare attribute for multi dog owners. Having just returned from a fantastic week there, with snow, sun, wind and rain it certainly lived up to its reputation and more.

Located in the centre of Slapton, there was easy walking access to the two pubs and village community store.
A massive kitchen and large but cosy lounge were coupled with very comfortable beds in roomy bedrooms. Everything was beautifully clean and well looked after. The dogs loved the big secure garden and had fun chasing around in the snow! We also had fun playing with Alexa in the kitchen!

We spent too much time in the Tower Inn, old and atmospheric. Good high quality food, perhaps on the expensive side but very fine ingredients and friendly service. The Queens Arms was also very friendly and had a more standard and cheaper pub menu.

Emma will offer lots of suggestions for places to visit through the Facebook page - and there are many in such a beautiful area. We loved North Sands in Salcombe for an all year round dog friendly beach with easy car parking and the Winking Prawn cafe right by the sandy beach (check tide times as high tide fully covers the sand). Also try Aune Valley butchers and deli on the road to Loddiswell for good food and the adjacent award winning Valley View cafe for ginormous breakfasts and lunches, or just a coffee.

Before we even left we decided to book again next spring. We just hope it might be slightly warmer weather!

Martin Hale,

4 adults and 5 (yes 5!) dogs stayed here at Rill House as part of my 40th birthday celebrations mid March 2018.
Wow what a place! Rill house is simply beautiful and within the first day we had already decided to book for next year in July when hopefully the weather would be a bit kinder to us!
Communication from Emma right from the start was superb and all questions answered quickly. Moor to Sea handle the actual booking and this also went very smoothly.
The house is so very well equipped, cosy and we had everything we needed plus extras. A really lovely surprise was a big bottle of bubbly placed on the kitchen table for us!
The bedrooms are very comfortable and have excellent bedding with comfortable mattresses.
The enclosed garden, well the dogs just loved it! Our two little Border Terriers raced round and round it like crazy!
We had one day of beautiful sunshine which we spent sitting on the patio.
The beach is literally 15 minutes away and it was just a shame about the windy/rainy weather as I expect it's amazing is glorious sunshine.
We used the Queens Arms pub mostly for food and it's tasty home cooking at very reasonable prices. The staff there are chatty and welcomed us with a smile each time we went there.
Just loved it here. Thanks to Emma and Richard and the guys at Moor to Sea.
See you next year!!

Donna Carlin,

Another fantastic week here. Gorgeous house, with everything we could possibly need to have a stress free, enjoyable week. Beautifully clean and well presented, dog treats and a ball left for the four legged guests, and a treat for the human guests too! We love the walk down to the beach, and coming back through the nature reserve. Despite being in a small village, there are two pubs which serve great food, and are very child friendly. The nearby farm shop makes for happy shopping, and cake eating! Can't recommend staying here enough! Have already booked our next two visits!

Alison Martin,

Got home on Friday after having a fantastic week in this cottage. We have stayed in quite a few cottages but none of the others come close to match this stunning cottage. The cottage is very well equipped for families and dogs and is immaculately clean. I loved going out in the court yard and hearing the babbling brook, it must be wonderful to sit out there in the summer when it's warmer and the flowers are in bloom. Max the dog is sulking now for bringing home, I think he wanted to stay, he had a whale of a time exploring all the beaches. It was nice to be able to go in the local pubs with Max and he tried dragging us in every time we went past any. I would really recommend going to the Cricket Inn at Beesands, we stopped here for lunch on the way back from a coastal walk to Start Point and the food was fantastic. I would recommend this place to anyone, I don't think you could find better anywhere.

Yvette Chew,

Just returned from a wonderful week with my retired parents and five dogs. Rill House was perfectly safe for our dogs and we especially liked the personal extras like welcome treats for dogs and humans! Super comfortable beds, lots of space and everything you could need. It was hard to leave!

Kate,

Had a fabulous week's stay at Rill House in August with our three dogs and two children (11 and 14). Beautiful house which is really well equipped. The children particularly appreciated the games room with a variety of games and also an Xbox. There were also games for outside play which were fun to use. Dog bingo and jenga were both played and also a game of outdoor draughts. The garden is absolutely beautiful with gorgeous planting and is perfect for dogs to race around in too. The dogs also enjoyed Rill House's own rill for a little paddle on hot days. We could have just stayed put enjoying the house and garden for a week to be honest but we also loved the village and local area. Slapton has two dog friendly pubs which are very welcoming. The walk through the nature reserve to the beach is lovely. The beach is quiet even in mid summer. Torcross up the road is slightly busier with great fish and chips. Further afield we loved Kingsbridge and also visited Beesands and Salcombe. Nice touches were the dog tags for the dogs and also dog treats and dog towels. Beds were super comfy. Showers good. Kitchen well equipped. Landline to accept incoming calls is useful. Tassimo machine great. Having a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer all really appreciated. Basically, there is everything you need and more. Would recommend it to anyone.

Liz and Shaun Kirtley,

Stayed for a week for a family birthday. Beautiful house. Very well equipped. Nothing was overlooked. Highly recommend. I just wish the roads were a bit wider or one way 🙈.

Claire Rose ,

Fantastic week here @Rill House! Thank you so much for making us all feel so welcome, we're particularly impressed with how accommodating you are to dogs & children! The garden is beautiful & dog friendly and the information you've provided as been very useful. Thanks once again!

The Fosters, The Falders, The Hannafords & the dogs!,

Another lovely week at Rill House and it was so lovely to see my drawing being used on the welcome card! Molly has been enjoying laps of the tide at Strete and I had a lovely afternoon looking at the open gardens with tea inside the church!

Berenice Smith,

We had a wonderful stay in May with excellent weather.
The house was perfect, everything you would ever need plus plenty go space indoors and a wonderful garden for our two dogs to explore. Thankfully they didn't decide to dip their toes in the stream and also avoided the frog on the steps to the garden.
We celebrated my husbands birthday and after visiting Skokes farm shop for supplies had a BBQ with family who stayed in a different holiday cottage in Slapton with the dogs playing.
Great that Rill House had private parking as due to the village being built pre cars parking is wherever you can on a first come basis.
Lovely welcome pack on arrival with dog biscuits from a village in Norfolk where we've also stayed at which was a nice touch.
Our favourite beach was at Bigbury-on-Sea which is vast and sandy plus lots of exploring for the dogs.
Both pubs in the village were very dog friendly but you need to book a table as they were busy evertime we ate out. Also ate at The Pickwick Inn near Bigbury and The Village Inn near Thurleston and both were friendly (dogs allowed in the bar and outside areas) and food was great.
Would definitely go back and happily for more than 1 week.

Tina & Graham King,

Have had such a wonderful stay at Rill house with my dad and our seven dogs. The house and garden are amazing, (very jealous) lots of space, super clean and tidy and everything you need. Also a good selection of games to play in the evenings.

Our favourite beach was Banthum, to be honest it's the only one we went to, three times. Kept going back as its pretty secure for run away lurchers. Estuary one side and cliff on the other. Haldon Forest was lovely too, hours drive but great fun for the dogs- we picked up some leaflets and left them at the house.

We will be back next year for sure! Love the humans.

Note from the dogs: Fanks sooo much for the biskits, they was yum yum. And fanks for lettin us plays in the awesom garden and the stweem. We's cant wait for next year!! Lots a love Rufus, Alfie, Merlin, Polly, Oscar, Rocket and Kiera.

Sorrel Griffiths ,

Just home from our stay at Rill House and we can't recommend it enough. The house is warm, comfortable and well equipped. Plenty of space indoor and out. The patio is south facing and private and the garden is beautiful. There are two local pubs, lovely food and very welcoming (dogs too) A short walk to Slapton beach, various walks around the Nature Reserve and close to Dartmouth and Kingsbridge. I hope we'll get to go back next year.

Becky Hext,

We had a wonderful time in this lovely house - we loved exploring the village of Slapton & Torcross Beaches were a HUGE hit with the kids & the dogs. The stunning garden is perfect for little legs to find adventure too!
Thank you for this wonderful escape!

The Rodwells & The Jone's,

Great Holiday home for us all - 5 adults, 1 child and 5 dogs - lovely garden!!
Very lucky with the weather - sunny all week with one day of rain - so we visited all local beaches - down very narrow lanes!
Had good takeaway meals from The Queens Arms highly recommend it :-)
The only downside was we couldn't fit our 3 cars in the driveway, mainly due to a neighbour parking close to the drive!
However had a good holiday in a lovely village in a lovely area! Many Thanks!
